Clinton Chavez ready for title opportunity

By Andy Rivera

Fresh off his battle with caesar Alvarado and fight of the year, Clinton Chavez will take on power puncher Emek Nwokolo 11-1, 10 ko’s, Saturday night in the birth place of “The Greatest” Muhammad Ali, Louisville, Ky.

Speaking to Chavez Thursday night, Chavez is ready for this opportunity to fight for his first title, the UBO Jr Middleweight title. Chavez 7-1, 4 ko’s. knows what he is up against in Nwokolo.

“We know he is a puncher and hits hard, so we have our game plan to use my height and reach to keep him honest.” Said Chavez. “Ruben (trainer) and I have been working on the things that will get us to victory.”

Chavez, who fought at 147 most of his career, and weighed 165 against Alvarado , will battle Mwokolo at 154. He feels his weight now is at a good place and is no longer an issue.

“I feel great at the higher weight, I don’t have to drain myself anymore.”

The 6’1 Chavez, tall for his weight class, did let boxingnewmexico that the only thing different from his other fights is the weigh in is at 6pm today, which is odd in the day of weighing early the day before the fight.

“Its something that is new for me, but I am ready and it won’t be an issue. I will just have less time to hydrate.”

We will keep fans up to date on Chavez’ fight and wish him the best of luck.
