Jason Sanchez looks to get back on track

Albuquerque featherweight Jason Sanchez will look to get back to his winning ways when he takes on Jordan White August 3rd, in Washington. Sanchez 16-5, doesn’t back down when it comes to taking on tough competition. He feels its the only way a fighter can get to the next level.

“You have to chances in order to see how good you are, its easy to take easy fights and build your record, that will only get someone so far. “ Stated Sanchez

This isn’t the first time Sanchez has taken a chance, he traveled to Panama in 2018, taking on then unbeaten Jean Carlos Rivera. Sanchez upset Rivera, with the win Sanchez was given a contract with Top Rank, thus propelling him to a world title fight against Oscar Valdez. Although he came up short, Sanchez showed he belonged.

Recently, people in the boxing community have been wondering if there was a rift with Sanchez and his father Pepe. Pepe was Sanchez’s trainer early in his career, but in the past year and a half the two have gone different ways.

“He is my dad and with training it caused a little strain on our relationship, but I think it is something that needed to be done, Mentally it has been better for me.”

Sanchez credits his wife Marlina Sanchez for keeping him grounded and focused. Marlina, isn’t there to interfere with him for boxing strategies, she is there to keep him focused and to push him as Sanchez stated,

“She is the one who helps me when it comes to dieting, being a mom to our kid’s. She will push me when I am getting tired during excercise, anything I need she is there 100% behind me.”

One thing Sanchez and his wife did after the Valdez title fight was purchase his home on the westside of town. When many in boxing blow their money, having nothing to show, the Sanchez family made sure they had roof over their head that they own.

“It was the first thing we (Marlina) did, my wife said let’s get our house now and be smart with our money.”

In taking on White, Sanchez sees it as another opportunity to get back on track and make some noise in the featherweight division,

“I have seen his fight and he is fast and has some power, he is someone that is very good. I know I have been at the level to fight for a world title and hope all of my experience will get me the win and keep on going.“
