Lindenmuth wins split decision

EL PASO, Texas — Katherine Lindenmuth added another championship belt to her résumé Saturday night, earning a hard-fought decision over hometown favorite Nayeli Rodriguez to capture the minor WIBA flyweight title at Ring Wars 23 at the El Paso County Coliseum.

In a competitive bout from the opening bell, Lindenmuth relied on her experience, steady pressure, and accurate combinations to offset Rodriguez’s speed and activity. Rodriguez had moments of success, particularly when fighting off the back foot, but Lindenmuth consistently landed the cleaner punches and controlled the pace during key exchanges.

The fight remained close throughout, with neither boxer able to seize complete control. Lindenmuth’s ability to work behind her jab, close the distance, and finish rounds strongly proved to be the difference as she earned the judges’ decision.

The victory for Lindenmuth raises her record officially to 8-5-1,  depending on who you ask.  Lindenmuth defeated Angelina Lucas last year. Lindenmuth failed to take a drug test after the fight, thus the fight declared a no contest. Lindenmuth did take a drug test when she arrived home, passing.  Still, it was not overturned.

Rodriquez falls to 7-2-1.

The bout served as the co-feature on King’s Promotions’ Ring Wars 23 card, which showcased several top fighters from the Southwest.
