Northern New Mexico boxing fans will have a familiar name to rally behind on April 18 as Antonio “Tone” Martinez makes his long-awaited return at Ohkay Hotel Casino. The Española veteran headlines the Redemption card in what promises to be one of the more emotional comeback stories on the New Mexico boxing calendar.

After six years away from the ring, Martinez says returning in front of his hometown supporters is one of the biggest reasons this fight means so much.

“I love fighting in front of my fans in Española,” said Martinez.

The veteran has also made it clear this is no comeback for show. Martinez says his training camp has been sharp, and his current weight shows the level of discipline he has brought into camp.

“I’m taking this fight serious. I’m at 151, and this is the closest I’ve been to weight with three weeks to go,” Martinez said.

Those words should excite fight fans across Northern New Mexico, as Martinez appears determined to make the most of his return opportunity. With the crowd expected to pack Ohkay Hotel Casino, the comeback atmosphere should make for a memorable main event.

The April 18 card is promoted by Holmes Boxing in association with Donald Sanchez Promotions, bringing together two respected New Mexico boxing names for what should be a strong night of local action.

For Martinez, the story is simple: a veteran fighter, a motivated comeback, and a chance to once again perform in front of the fans who have supported him from the beginning.
