EL PASO, Texas — D’Angelo Sanchez needed just one round to make a statement, overwhelming Austin Lewis en route to a first-round technical knockout.

Sanchez came out aggressively and rocked Lewis early with a powerful right hand. Sensing his opponent was hurt, Sanchez pinned Lewis against the ropes and unleashed a relentless barrage that forced the referee to administer a standing eight count.

Lewis beat the count, but he never fully recovered. Sanchez immediately resumed the attack, trapping Lewis on the ropes and landing a series of unanswered punches before the referee stepped in to stop the bout at 2:08 of the opening round.

With the victory, Sanchez improved to 6-1, while Lewis fell to 1-3.

Following the fight, Sanchez said the bout had become personal because of Lewis’ comments on social media leading up to the matchup.

“I took care of the animal, and now he is my pet,” Sanchez said.
