Unbeaten Andres Rey 5-0 , will take on his toughest competition when he faces Gary Hampton 5-2., Saturday night in El Paso
He wants to fight the best out there each fight out.
“It’s what I want to do when I fight , to see how much I get better and prove myself.” Stated Rey
Rey has had many changes recently. He was working with Sergio Chavez as his trainer, Chavez got ill and made the change to former amateur star David Martinez as his lead trainer.
Martinez feels it’s a good fit although different styles.
“Sergio was brought up in the Romero (Danny) camp and sits down more on punches. I wanted to teach Andres to box more and not get hit, yes punch in exchanges when it’s warranted, but box more using his jab.” Says Martinez
Having a manager also has been a big change for Rey. He has signed with Jacob Maes who has guided the career of Archie Ray Marquez in the past
“It’s helped me be more focused and concentrate more on boxing, Jacob has helped me be more focused.”
Focused Rey must be for his biggest challenge in facing Hamilton. Hamilton has fought many fighters with good records and has held his own.
“This fight helps me see where I’m at and what the next steps are.”
If Rey is successful he will return in August on a Christy Martin card in El Paso.
