Holly Holm's return to the boxing ring was a successful one, as she defeated Yolanda Ochoa this past Saturday in California on the Jake Paul/Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fight card. Holm won all 10 rounds with scores of 100-90 on all three judges' cards.
This victory positions her to fight WBA lightweight champion Stephanie Han from El Paso. Both fighters have been on a collision course ever since Holm announced her return to the ring after a 12-year layoff. During this time, Holm fought and won a women's UFC world title. Now, she seeks one last challenge to capture the 135-pound boxing title.
Both Han and Holm have been signed by Jake Paul's MVP Promotions, setting the stage for a clash later in 2025 or early 2026. The plan for the two to fight has been in the works for the past six months. Holm's manager, Lenny Fresquez, and Han's trainer, Louie Burke, both envisioned this matchup. With both fighters now signed, it was only natural for them to face each other.
"It's a fight we look forward to," stated Burke. "Holly and Stephanie is a natural for our region and for women's boxing."
Han (10-0) and Holm (34-2-3) share similar stories regarding their time away from boxing. Han took 10 years off to start her career, build a family, and have children before returning to boxing in 2021. Holm took 12 years off to pursue her MMA career. Although nothing is official yet, Han is expected to fight this coming August, with Florida being mentioned as the potential site. If victorious, Han and Holm will duke it out for the title.
After her win over Ochoa, Holm stated that she would like to fight Han for the title. If Han takes care of her part, look for a super fight between the two soon.
