OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Regarding August 8 – Indianapolis

Unfortunately, we have to announce that Yoruba Moreu Jr. will no longer be competing on August 8 in Indianapolis.

This is incredibly disappointing for our team. We committed to this event after being assured an opponent would be secured, even passing on an opportunity to fight on the same date in Albuquerque because we believed in the commitments that were made.

Over the past several weeks, Yoruba remained in camp, trained, prepared, and ready to compete. As the Indiana State Athletic Commission’s deadline approached, however, an opponent was not finalized before the required cutoff, and as a result, our bout was removed from the card.

We also want to make something very clear regarding our management. Our manager, Sam Garcia, did everything within his power to work alongside the promoters to get this fight across the finish line. He presented multiple potential opponents in an effort to keep Yoruba on the card, but unfortunately, those opponents were not accepted.

We sincerely appreciate Sam’s hard work throughout this entire process, along with his honesty, communication, and unwavering dedication to Team Moreu. He worked tirelessly until the very deadline trying to make this fight happen, and we couldn’t ask for anything more from our management.

We also want to acknowledge what we were told regarding the matchmaking process. According to the promoter, they were working to secure an opponent worthy of a co-main event and sent multiple contracts to prospective opponents and their teams. We were informed that several opportunities were declined, while others requested compensation that exceeded what had been budgeted for the event. Unfortunately, despite those efforts, no opponent was secured before the commission’s deadline, and the fight was canceled.

We understand that putting together professional boxing events is never easy, and we appreciate everyone who made an honest effort to make this fight happen. Unfortunately, despite those efforts, an agreement could not be reached before the commission’s deadline.

What makes this situation even more frustrating is the amount of time, preparation, travel, sacrifice, and financial commitment that goes into preparing a professional fighter for a bout of this magnitude. We also had sponsors step forward and invest in Yoruba for this event. Because the fight is no longer taking place, we made the decision to return every sponsorship dollar that had been committed. We believe that is the right thing to do, and we sincerely thank every business and individual who chose to support Team Moreu.

To every sponsor, fan, family member, and supporter who believed in us—thank you. Your support means more than words can express, and we sincerely apologize that circumstances outside of our team’s control prevented us from delivering the fight we had spent weeks preparing for.

Yoruba Jr. did his job.

He trained.

He stayed ready.

He honored his commitment.

Unfortunately, this fight did not come together.

This is a setback, not a stopping point.

The Slim Reaper will be back.
