New Mexico’s Abraham Perez was set for the biggest opportunity of his career against WBO flyweight world champion Anthony Olascuaga before the bout was reportedly canceled after Olascuaga and his team pulled out of the scheduled fight.
Perez had signed to face the champion in what would have been a major step onto the world stage for the New Mexico fighter.
While no official reason has been publicly confirmed regarding the withdrawal, the cancellation leaves Perez temporarily sidelined from a significant title opportunity. This hasn’t detoured Perez, as he is in the gym waiting for his next opportunity.
“I took on week off and went back to the gym after my last fight. I want to be ready and waiting for some things to materialize.” Stayed Perez
Despite the setback, the situation could still open doors for Perez moving forward. Simply being selected for a championship-level fight speaks volumes about the respect he is gaining within the sport.
Fight news may be coming soon.
