This past April, Eduardo Pino was set to make his professional debut on the Abraham Perez/Jose Rodriguez Montemayor undercard against Austin Lewis. However, Lewis's inability to make weight left Pino without an opponent. Trainers Pat Holmes and Randy Lopez arranged an exhibition for Pino on the same card, but the NMAC's issues prevented that from happening.

During this period, Pinion remained in the gym seeking a fight. Holmes Promotions, led by Pat, chose to resume their promotional activities and will host a fight card on Saturday at the Ohkay Casino near Santa Fe.

Pinon is set to face Jose Villapando (0-4) in a four-round bout at 115 pounds. Despite having fewer than five amateur fights, Pinon is eager to finally step into the ring.

"I was prepared to go last April, but circumstances changed. I stayed in the gym, and when this fight came up, I was ready," Pinon said.

Despite his limited amateur experience, many in the local fight community believe he has potential, even though he's learning as he progresses. Pinon doesn't view this as a disadvantage.

I have sparred with many local professionals in New Mexico and felt I held my ground, so I decided it was best to turn professional and see where it leads me.

Despite Pinon's lack of amateur experience, two of his favorite fighters, GGG and Vasyl Lomachenko, have each participated in over 300 fights at the amateur level.

Pat Holmes views Pinon as a fighter with significant potential and was eager to have him compete professionally in the ring.

Holmes states, "If I didn't believe Eduardo was ready, I wouldn't have him turn pro. He has a lot of talent and significant fan support up north."

I understand he lacks extensive experience in the amateur ranks, but he's performed well against professionals and will be prepared. We'll let him gain some initial experience this weekend and proceed from there.

The fight card is sold out, but you cn get live results at boxingnewmexico.com
